MTV81 Alice Nine Artist Page

Alice Nine are a special case in the world of visual-kei.

Their sound doesn’t quite fit squarely into any one musical category, because of their willingness to step into other types of soundscapes, such as pop and dance music. The five-piece came together as a band in 2004, and left their first footprints in the visual scene with “Namae wa, Mada Nai” and “Gion Shouja no Kane ga Naru,” both released that year.

Their big break came with the release of their single “Jewels” in 2007, when it landed them with a cover pic on “Shoxx,” the visual scene’s Rolling Stone magazine. It eventually led them down the road to their first gig overseas, at the Rrock Revolution fest in L.A., hopefully the first of many live shows abroad. The highest an Alice Nine record has placed on the Oricon Charts is third position, with their single “Rainbows.”

Now in 2013, Alice Nine is its ninth year, and to celebrate the auspicious anniversary, the band are releasing three singles in just as many months, starting off with “Daybreak” in March, and followed by “Shadowplay” in April – and stay dialed in to MTV 81 for more deets on the third.

A band that’s constantly evolving, it was once easier to call them “visual” in their early years, but after almost a decade of making music, Alice Nine are carving out their own sound in the world of J-rock.
