Getting heated over an unexpected point they have in common...
Takeru: We were just talking about how good the shampoo Hiroto uses is.
Hiroto: Yeah. It's really good. Using shampoo is important, after all. Or rather, if you choose a good shampoo and conditioner, your hair won't be so damaged!
Takeru: That's right! But I'm not very fussy over what brand I use.
Hiroto: That's not good! That's definitely not good!

Takeru: Last time, Shou mentioned that since your family runs a beauty salon, once you start talking about hair, you start sounding like a professional and you get really fired up talking about it (laughs).

Hiroto: It's funny, because I'm the youngest in my band (laughs). But I don't think I'm that much older than Takeru.
Takeru: That's right. We're from the same generation.
Hiroto: We are. Anyway, what are you, Takeru?
Takeru: What?!
Hiroto: Oh, I didn't mean it like that (laughs). I mean what music did you listen to when you decided to start a band?
Takeru: That's the "what" you were talking about (laughs). That surprised me a little (laughs). I listened to Dragon Ash, ELLEGARDEN, ORANGE RANGE and KORN.
Hiroto: So you didn't start off listening to Visual Kei.
Takeru: Yeah. My younger sister liked Visual Kei, so I watched some of the DVDs she had, and learned of Visual Kei after that. The first songs I covered were from SADS, ORANGE RANGE and Nirvana.
Hiroto: That's many different genres!
Takeru: Yes. I liked many different types of music. I used to love music from idols, since it was really high quality. Actually, at first, I didn't want to be in a band; I had wanted to be a playwright and shoot movies.
Hiroto: Huh?! What do you mean?
Takeru: I was bad at music.
Hiroto: You were? Then why did you start a band?
Takeru: After listening to hyde's "666 (Released in December, 2003)", I received such a huge shock that I went to my first live after that. That live was really good, and I wondered "What would the view from the stage look like?", and with that, I wanted to be in a band.
Hiroto: I see. Were you the vocalist?
Takeru: Yes. I only knew how to sing.
Hiroto: I see. So it's not like you wanted to be in a band just because; it's more like you felt that within filmic scenery, there was music.
Takeru: That's right. Ever since I was a child, I really liked watching movies and reading novels, so I felt that wanting to create a world of my own one day was linked to music.Hiroto: I see. That's interesting. After having heard what you just said, I feel that it's exactly what you're doing now with SuG. You can do all of those things you want to.
Takeru: Yes. Like our music is based on creation.
Hiroto: Yeah. That's right. What kind of novels do you read?
Takeru: I read just about anything when I was a child. At first, I read things like "Gulliver's Travels" (laughs). But the first novel I read was by Ishida Ira.
Hiroto: What have you been reading lately?
Takeru: One I've read recently was Sakuraba Kazuki's "Girl Rowans and Seven Seemingly Cute Adults"
Hiroto: Do you read any of Nishio Ishin's works? Like "Ghostory"?
Takeru: Oh, I've heard of it!
Hiroto: Rather than the plot twists, the play on words he does is interesting. Otsuichi's works are also interesting.
Takeru: I like Otsuichi's works! I used to read his works all the time in high school!
Hiroto: I read a lot of his works too. What's your favourite novel by him?
Takeru: "The Lost Story"! What about you, Hiroto?
Hiroto: I liked "SEVEN ROOMS", from the "ZOO" series.
Takeru: That's been made into a movie, right? That was really good! I love it too! I also liked "ZOO". I found out that there was a movie adaption from THE BACK HORN's "Kiseki" music video. It was the movie's theme song.
Hiroto: Otsuichi's writing style can be grotesque, but isn't it interesting that there's also some sad overtones in it?
Takeru: It is! Have you read Tsunekawa Koutarou's "Night Market", Hiroto?
Hiroto: I haven't.
Takeru: If you like Otsuichi's work, I recommend that novel! I'm sure you'll like it!
Hiroto: Really? I'll give it a read.
You guys are really hitting it off (laughs)
Takeru: Yeah!
Hiroto: We sure are (laughs). But you really do love novels, don't you?
Takeru: I do. I love movies and music videos too! When I was a student, I only ever watched TV shows that aired music videos. I watched all the way from #100 to #1!
Hiroto: I remember those shows (laughs). I used to watch them too. But when you were a student, there weren't any other guys who read novels too, were there?
Takeru: There weren't. But there are lots of people in the Visual Kei world who do.
Hiroto: Right. All I did back then, and all I do now is read novels and play the guitar (laughs). Because the most fundamental part of me is depressing (laughs).
Takeru: Same here (laughs). But you're really aggressive when you're on stage, Hiroto! Like you jump on the speakers and play the guitar on there. That surprised me. When I first saw you do that.
Surprisingly, this guy (Hiroto) actually does those kinds of things too (laughs)
Hiroto: I do (laughs). Yeah. Yeah, I do (laughs)
Takeru: Ahahaha. But you must have a lot of physical abilities.
Hiroto: Ahahaha. "Physical abilities" (laughs)Takeru: But that might be expected, since you used to dance and all.
What?! He did dancing?! It's my first time hearing of it!
Hiroto: No, no. I don't do proper dances like Takeru does (laughs)
Takeru: No, no, no. I was wondering what Hiroto's source of motivation was. I wanted to ask you, so that's why I nominated you for this project!
Hiroto: Oh! So now you're finally getting down to business? (laughs)
Takeru: It's not like that (laughs)
Hiroto: But my brother, who is 10 years older than me, used to dance. After watching him, when I was around three years old, I somehow started dancing with him, so I think that probably helped me with my athletic skills. But I really don't have a clue what I do on stage (laughs). Before the live, and before I go on stage, I imagine myself doing many cool things, but once I get on stage, and the moment I step in front of the audience, my mind goes blank. Honestly, it's because I used to be a really depressing person (laughs). When I was in elementary school, I was really bad at interacting with other people. But in my mind, I thought about many things. It's because I was completely convinced that the world revolved around me (laughs)
Takeru: Ahahaha. Everyone thinks that way. People in bands in particular (laughs).
Hiroto: Yeah (laughs). From the moment I met the guitar, I even thought "With this, the world really will revolve around me". I think I've made all the things I had been dreaming of a reality. Or rather, I get the feeling I've discovered a place where I can relive those dreams. If I didn't have a guitar, the world wouldn't revolve around me (laughs). I'm so pitiful~.
Takeru: I completely understand what you mean! But it's fine, since you have the guitar. I've got nothing.
Hiroto: You have singing, don't you?
Takeru: No, I mean, if someone said to me "Show me what you can do, right now", I wouldn't be able to please them with just singing. It also takes time explaining things with words. I don't think that's a good thing. That's why it's one of my complexes.
Hiroto: But aren't the things you doing now all a part of your personality? I think it is. The things you do aren't things that just anyone can do.
Takeru: That makes me happy. Thank you very much! I think I can kind of understand where your source of motivation comes from, Hiroto!
Hiroto: From the fact that I'm a depressing person (laughs)
Takeru: No, not that (laughs). But that is also a part of your motivation. If you didn't have that part of you, I don't think you'd be able to show such explosive power. Normally, if you don't have that sort of foundation, you won't be able to reach boiling point. I think that because you have a whole range of emotions, you can have such explosive power.Hiroto: That's true. But people like Kawamura Ryuichi and hyde really are amazing after all. You just can't beat them. There's no way that they'd normally be bi-polar on stage. I guess they're just naturals. That's amazing. I think it's really amazing.
Takeru: It is. I really love hyde, but I don't want to ever meet him (laughs).
Huh? Why not?
Takeru: I've always looked up to him. I guess I don't want to think of him as being of this world (laughs)
Hiroto: I really get what you mean! It's like because you love and respect them so much, you don't want to meet them.
Takeru: Right.
That was good, that little talk just now.
Hiroto: I had the chance to meet SUGIZO, and ever since then we see each other every now and then. But ever since SUGIZO found out that I look up to him, I get the feeling he knows to keep a little distance between us.
Takeru: How nice of him! I've always admired him!
Hiroto: I've got some juniors now, so I pay attention and feel that I have to try my best and be the kind of senior that my juniors want me to be. I can't be too carefree around them (laughs). After being in a band for eight years, there are moments when I feel that I have to be someone who is worthy of being called a "senior". I also think that I should know where to draw the line in terms of interaction with the people who I admire and who got me into music.
That means you want to show respect to such people, not because of senior-junior relationships, but because they are people of significance to you, right?
Hiroto: Right. That's exactly right. It's like they're not at the level where I call them "senior". They're the people who got me into music. Thinking about it that way, I can never cross that line. I have to maintain that space between us.
Takeru: I get you!
Hiroto: Still, even if I do see them, I don't lose heart, since they're cool, after all. But it's not like I never want to see them for the rest of my life, it's just that I don't think I should get too close to them.
Takeru: I get you! Rather than not wanting to lose heart, it's more like you don't want to know too much about them.
Hiroto: Yeah.
You want to keep them in the realm of "someone I admire".
Takeru: Right. To the point where you want to think that they don't exist in this world! You don't want to think that they pay taxes, like everyone else does.

Takeru: That reminds me, I did feel disheartened once! When a certain Western band came to Japan, they apparently went to a store that my acquaintance runs. They were wondering whether they should buy a 6000yen pair of pants, but apparently, in the end, they didn't buy it because they looked at the price tag and said it was too expensive! Hearing that was kind of disheartening (laughs)
Hiroto: Ahahaha.
You think "Don't say that 6000yen is expensive!".
Hiroto: We have to be careful! That might happen to us! If we were to go shopping at a store where the store clerk knew us, and ended up not buying a 6000yen pair of pants because it was too expensive, the store clerk would definitely tell the fans who come to the store "When Alice Nine's Hiroto was here, he said that those pair of pants were expensive and ended up not buying it". Right?!
Takeru: Ahahaha. Right (laughs)! We have to be careful! They'd definitely say those things!
Hiroto: They would! There are even some taxi drivers who don't think twice about telling fans where people live.
Takeru: There are! I really despise that.
There are such people. I once had a taxi driver tell me where Saijou Hideki lived.
