Alice Nine spent all of 2013, the year that coincided with the band name because it was the 9th anniversary since its formation, facing and overcoming new challenges. To finish off that year, they held two nationwide tours in the winter of 2013.
As these tours consisted of both performances for the public as well as for fan club members-only, a point that was particularly worth noting was that for fan-club-only performance the band performed under the name stylized as “アリス九號.” (but still pronounced as Alice Nine), a name that they’ve used since
the formation of the band.
First, let’s take a look at the <Alice Nine 9th Anniversary ♯3 ”HEAVEN’S DOOR”> tour which had its finale on December 25. During this live performance, which was held as a show open to the general public, the band performed songs that they had released in the past three years under the name Alice Nine, including “SHADOWPLAY”, “Scarlet”, and “Niji no Yuki”. Although they didn’t play the pieces that have been considered their standard classics, they excited the audience with up-tempo aggressive tunes from their upcoming 2014 new album release such as “Kaisen Zenya”.
Because it was Christmas, the members brought out a Santa hat during the encore. After they performed “Silent Night” with the audience singing along, the band announced a pleasant surprise: that the Christmas song *”Merry Christmas To U”, which was a MUSIC CARD limited release, would be their gift to the audience.
After the performance ended, there came yet another present from the members. The audience that was gathered that day was the first to hear the latest and exciting news from the band: the release of their new single, “SHINING” on 2/26 of 2014 and their new album, “Supernova” on March 19, as well as the announcement of another nationwide tour, <Alice Nine TOUR 2014 ”Supernova Symphonia”>, as well as a special performance of <BOYS&GIRLS ONLY LOVE> which will also take place sometime during that period.
Continuing on, let’s now take a look at the finale of the <club ALICE presents Alice Nine.FC TOUR 2013 “Kachoufuugetsu”> tour which took place on December 28. This fan club members-only show which opened up with a performance of “Cradle to Alpha” had a set list which consisted of songs that were released during the period when the band performed under the name アリス九號. (pronounced as Alice Nine). It might have been partially due to the fact that the entire audience consisted of fan club members, but the fact that the members had a smile from ear to ear throughout the entire performance left quite an impression.
The audience that had gathered that day also returned the sentiment, listening to the renditions of “High Collar Naru Rondo”, “Lemon”, and “FOLLOW ME” with expressions of endearment on their faces. In the midst of the performance, Tora (G), Hiroto (G), and Saga (B) all brought out acoustic guitars and played a heartwarming acoustic version of “the beautiful name”, a song where the audience always joins the singing in a beautiful chorus.
After that came the encore; upon looking at the smiling faces of the audience, Shou commented, “You guys look like our smiles have completely rubbed off on you,” smiling himself as he said the words. Following that, Saga appeared on stage holding a brown envelope, and after taking out the paper inside, announced that on 2/14 they would be holding a Valentine Live at ZeppTOKYO. What’s more, when he announced that during this show they would be performing all of the songs recorded on the upcoming album before its release, the audience erupted in a great frenzy. What got the audience going even more was when Nao (Dr) appeared on stage wearing a headband with bottle in hand, in “bonenkai” end-of-the-year party style, and did an impression of Funasshi, the popular city mascot of Funabashi City. During this members-only live, the fan club was able to have a rare glimpse at the members being themselves, something which is not possible during a regular live.
After surprising the fans with the performance of a rare song, “Gin no Tsuki, Kuroi Hoshi”; Shou took the mic and spoke.
“This was a milestone of a year, our 9th year. This time around we decided to hold two tours, one under the name Alice Nine and one under アリス九號. (Alice Nine), but regardless of the period in which each band name was used, what ultimately matters is that the essence of our band is in all of your hearts. You all just being here is what makes us Alice Nine. Thanks to you all, we were able to complete our ninth year. We will never forget that we were truly able to spend this year full of happiness and bliss.”
――Shou
Then, after announcing, “Akasaka, let’s all become stars!” they finished off the show with “Heisei Juushichinen Shichigatsu Nanoka”.
Alice Nine, expanding and growing in a surging wave, finished off their 9th anniversary year with a bang. In their 10th year, they’ll be unstoppable, going full-throttle with the release of their new album “Supernova”. Alice Nine’s new music and action is definitely something you won’t want to miss.
