Alice Nine performed at the Hibiya Open Air Concert Hall as part of their current nation-wide tour <Alice Nine TOUR 2014 [Supernova Symphonia]>.
For Alice Nine’s 10th year, they started with the single [SHINING] (on sale 2/26/2014), their album [Supernova] was released March 19th, and after finishing their current nation-wide tour they’ll embark on an Asia Tour, as well as adorning their 10th anniversary at Fuji-Q Highland Conifer Forest on August 23rd.
After their first time trying Girl’s Only & Boy’s Only lives in Tokyo’s Shimokitazawa, they toured through Hokkaido and Tohoku, reaching their 9th public performance of their Japan tour on May 5th at Hibiya Open Air Concert Hall. It’s been 7 years since standing on Japan’s open-air stage in 2007 for their <[birth in black jewel] TOUR FINAL>.
Entering the stage from both left and right, the 5 members looked out into the loudly cheering audience with adoring smiles, opening the act with [SHINING]. From the opening, the hall’s tension rose at once, like light piercing through the day’s cloudy sky. With a set-list that mixed popular songs with recorded songs from [Supernova], their flashy performance, in combination with the open field, left an overwhelming sense of liberation for the audience. In addition, the crowd’s hearts were struck with reassuring words typical of Shou (Vo), “Entrust everything to us.”
“Although today unfortunately the stars aren’t visible in the sky, we brought this song so that we can create stars together.” Just as the sky completely darkened, these words marked the performance of their song [FANTASY] released in 2006. This song, which hasn’t been showcased in a while, was met with cries of joy from the venue, and from there emitted radiance. Of course it didn’t mean stars could actually be seen, but for people watching their live, it was like experiencing “everyone creating stars together.” Being able to make listeners’ hearts glitter, it makes you strongly want to say “this kind of band is Alice Nine”.
While adding such blissful moments, during the final stages of the live, members chose one of four cards with song names written on each, as part of a customary practice for this tour. The selected card was [GEMINI]. And so they additionally performed an originally arranged [GEMINI] which emanated an overwhelming power, drawing excitement from the crowd.
During the encore MC, audience members congratulated Hiroto (G) for his birthday the previous day, May 4th. Nao (Dr) while divulging that “yesterday, Shou-kun and Hiroto-kun when out to eat oysters together,” also commented “and so aren’t they horny* [today]?” eliciting laughter from the hall. Saga (B) also entered the encore stage with a flower bouquet and presented it to Hiroto. “Actually before the live a cake was prepared for me, but since we were told the sound check was starting, it quickly ended in about 30 seconds. That’s why I didn’t think this would happen either, so I’m happy!”
And with this surprise from the four members, the hall delightedly sang “Happy Birthday” together. Furthermore during the MC, Tora (G) announced, “I’ve accomplished something great!” referring to Disk Garage’s free [DI:GA] issue distributed at the beginning of the event, of which the front cover published his personal drawing of the 5 members. For those who couldn’t get a physical copy of [DI:GA], it’s published here online. *On the cover there’s also a comment that says, “First time in 20 years I’ve picked up a pencil…” [laugh]
After such pleasing news, the encore rushed forth with a happy atmosphere. “Everyone was awesome! Thank you so much.” The live closed its curtains with a hall overflowing with smiles.
“I, Open*, love ya”.
Such words from Saga during the live left a deep impression. Passion and excitement, a positive power that pierces through the sky, these feelings leave you in a wonderful mood. That’s why just like Hibiya Open-Air, you can’t help but feel excited for Fuji-Q Highland Conifer Forest. And at the end of the live, the band left these words in anticipation:
“After touring around for our nation-wide tour and Asia tour, we’ll return bigger and better. Let’s meet at Fuji-Q!”

Translator's Notes: *The “Open” refers to 外 which I took as Saga shortening the name of Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall. Also he used “wa” at the end of “sukida” >w< Sorry for particularly awkward wording too. Oh and Nao’s comment about Shou and Hiroto lol… I think he’s referring to them two being lovey-dovey and giving fanservice.
