[Salinwika] WINK-UP! 2014-05
-The theme of your photoshoot is “The Little Prince”?
Hiroto: This time the editorial department proposed it and when I heard what it was, to be honest I was like, “SERIOUSLY?!” [laugh]. Because when you think of “The Little Prince,” you imagine someone wearing a white or blue outfit, a rather fluffy and cute image. But when the stylist showed me the selected outfits, they were all black and rather chic so I thought, “Huh? Not what I imagined…” The clothes had a dark tone in order to express the solitude and sadness the Prince most likely harbors within his heart, the venturing light from darkness; I didn’t object to doing a photoshoot with such an atmosphere.
-It’s like a story that teaches you, “What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
Hiroto: It’s a more fantasy-like story I think. Solitude is also probably part of story.
-When do you experience solitude?
Hiroto: Moments like creating songs or playing guitar. Since I pursue it so intensely, it ends up turning into isolation. Presenting the results at lives and in our music, even though it transmits out to everyone like that, until I reach that point it’s really lonely. As one boy, since I’m always in the music industry, I really feel out of sorts living a normal cycle with friends. During such times, I feel really isolated. A really constrained feeling.
-Either way, even though artists don’t have that kind of normal life, you’ve always been living like that.
Hiroto: Even though I dislike loneliness and I easily succumb to it, I’ll give my best, because beyond the loneliness there’s a place that’s waiting to open up to me. I think there are many artists like that.
-While dating, when do you feel lonely?
Hiroto: My outlook on dating probably changed a bit. Even if the other person fools around, even then I think I’ll be accepting. I’ll probably still believe in the future we have. On the other hand, I may feel a bit depressed. But I don’t think I’m the type who’s able to cheat, since I tend to face everything with only serious feelings.
-What does solitude mean to you?
Hiroto: It’s like a trial that I have to go through to meet that welcoming place someday.

Translator's Notes: I don’t know if I captured it clearly, but he’s basically saying that even though he feels lonely making music/practicing by himself, he does it so in the end he can show everyone his music and perform at lives. At least that’s how I perceived it..
