Hidayah Idris caught up with Alice Nine's guitarist Hiroto ahead of the band's Asia tour, Supernova Symphonia, in Singapore
Ten years in the industry and J-rock band Alice Nine proves that they haven't lost their shine. Despite their new record being titled Supernova, the quintet is nothing like the stellar explosion whose luminosity is momentary. And looks like their decade-long blazing success isn't about to dim anytime soon, as the band preps up for their highly-anticipated first Asia tour. teens caught up with the band's guitarist Hiroto to grill him on their latest release and upcoming concert.
-You're celebrating your 10th anniversary this year. If there is a moment in time you could return to, which would it be and why?
Hiroto: I believe during the past 10 years, every little experience we went through brought us to this point where we are able to have our very own tour in Asia. It's something we never imagined would happen when we first started out! We're really thankful for this and besides, as a band, we had a number of amazing memories so I don't have any regrets.
-After being with each other for a decade, is there a quirk about another member that you still dislike?
Hiroto: Hmmm... Maybe Nao's toilet moments just before our concerts. (Laughs) If we were ever late for our concerts, it is because of Nao!
-What's the funniest incident that happened during a live performance?
Hiroto: There was once when I kept having unexpected problems with my guitar. It [distracted me during] my performance and I ended up throwing my guitar! It smashed through the amp speakers... I'll never do that again. (Laughs)
-Tell us more about your latest album, Supernova.
Hiroto: After 10 years, this is really the best album! It is also a record where we found a new side of Alice Nine and how we have evolved and come into our own as a band. [You can] feel the [rush] and energy coming from the band!
-You missed the fan meet the last time the band was here. Please leave a message for your Singapore fans.
Hiroto: I regret that I was only in Singapore for a short while during my previous visit so I intend to make up for it by enjoying the time with you 200% this time round! The world is getting closer in this modern age. There is hardly any distance between us. We can be together through musi(c), beyond the distance or language. I am so looking forward to hearing everyone's voices and seeing your smiles in Singapore! Please come see us!
-What can fans look forward to during the concert?
Hiroto: The show itself will be pretty much remain the same as in Japan, but the conditions and the fans will differ from country to country so that would make each concert different for sure! Let's sing along and be outrageous in the spirit of rock together!
